Selecting a good site is extremely important. Worldwide, grapevines require full sun, well-drained soil,
and a great deal of heat to produce high-quality fruit. In
Minnesota, the ideal sites for accumulating enough warmth
are south-facing slopes. Southeast or southwest-facing slopes
may also be suitable. Steep slopes, while possibly providing
better growing conditions, may be difficult or dangerous to
manage.
