CFANS Dean Brian Buhr visits with Steve Poppe, Horticulture Scientist, at the site of our day-neutral low tunnel strawberry project

CFANS Interim Dean, Dr. Brian Buhr visited the University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris on October 25, 2013.  During his visit, Dean Buhr outlined his vision for the upcoming year within CFANS.  In turn, faculty, staff, and Extension Educators had the opportunity to share with Dean Buhr program specific successes and challenges, as well as to highlight some of the innovative research efforts on behalf of the University.  Dean Buhr participated in a tour of the WCROC, including a visit to the day-neutral low tunnel strawberry plot.  Steve Poppe, Horticulture Senior Scientist, shared with Dean Buhr the latest projects in small fruit research such as strawberry variety trials, the cold climate strawberry farming project, and the use of day-neutral low tunnels systems for extending the strawberry growing season.  Poppe’s strawberry research is in collaboration with Jim Luby and Dr. Emily Hoover, both from the U of MN Department of  Horticulture Sciences.
